A rough start

Poor Breven first grade was a rough start for the poor little guy I am hoping that this is not how his whole year will go.

First he didn't get the teacher he had wanted which I knew would happen. Then on the first day we were told we could not follow him to class which upset him. Well when he got home he was ok and had a good day. He missed his old friends he ended up in a class full of afternoon kinders and kids from the other class room so he felt like the odd one out. Then a few days in a new kid came to class(we are the overflow school) he was mean and teased Breven, and was mean to a few other kids as well. In this boys one week at our school he made Breven cry 3 days and was sent home with a red card every day so I know it was not just my kid having issues. This made him miss me and cried every morning for a week straight! Also some of his old friends thought that they had to hang out with their 3rd and 4th grade siblings and not their younger friends so that was an issue as well. He was overwhelmed by the full day and was tired and thought there was too much work.

Thankfully the mean kid was moved back to his own school. Breven had jobs in class and is now up front where he can pay attention and be close to the teacher. He has adjusted to the schedule and is now not so tired in the afternoons. So things are looking up. His teacher is having issues with a few kids in class as I noticed when I was in there I mean like the same 3 kids every time doing the same things and having the clips moved all day! Breven has told me that these kids are not his friends because bad kids can ask him to do bad things and he dosn't want his teacher to think he is bad(glad he figured that out)

Those first few weeks were so hard for me as a mom there was nothing I could do. I told them not to call me unless he was inconsolable or just went too far. But I remember being teased by mean little boys and my heart broke for my son. Then he said he was bored with all his reading and that it was all too easy(which it was I wish they would test him and get a level so we can get books) Right now he is reading the little readers they send home and I supplement the rest with books I bought for him to challenge his reading abilities.

He has made some new friends and has met some new challenges and I am hoping that this is the turning point and now he has a great school year!

I'm glad things are going better! That's hard when they are having a tough time and there is nothing you can do :(
